Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard is the latest Adidas athlete to star in its “Creators Never Follow” series. In the ad, Lillard raps about his doubters, thanking them for the motivation.
“This message truly shares who I am,” Lillard said in a statement. “I put in work on and off the court and focus on what I can control every day to create my path. You’ve got to be willing to take risks and gamble on yourself. It just comes down to believing in your vision and never letting outside noise worry you.”
The video incorporates Lillard’s #4BarFriday, an Instagram account where he challenges people to submit their best freestyle 4 bars in 15 seconds or less every Friday. In the video, Lillard’s four bars are:
“Be a king in ya mind, but do the work of a servant
With a purpose on the mission you get to what you deserving
If it’s worth it you’d be on straight and narrow instead of swerving
Ignore the dream killers and doubters cuz they ain’t perfect.”
Last month, Adidas revealed a “Creators Never Follow” spot featuring James Harden. The Houston Rockets guard signed a 13-year $200 million contract with Adidas in August.
Adidas has also released a “Create Your Own Game” spot with soccer stars Lionel Messi, Gareth Bale, Thomas Muller, James Rodriguez and Mesut Ozil.
