In February, rumors began to circulate that the youngest member of the Kardashian/Jenner family, Kylie Jenner, was set to sign a deal with Puma.
Kanye West, who is married to Kylie’s half-sister Kim Kardashian West, immediately took to Twitter to shut down those rumors. West has a deal with competing athletic brand Adidas.
“There will never be a Kylie Puma anything,” West said, adding that Puma should “never try to divide the family!!!” Despite West’s adamant claims, Puma then confirmed that Kylie will be the new face of the brand, and she began appearing in ads for the Puma Fierce sneaker in May. Kylie subsequently has appeared in ads for the classic Puma Suede sneaker.
On Sunday night’s episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” West explained his issue with Kylie’s deal. Don’t forget — Kylie appeared in the Yeezy Season 1 and Yeezy Season 2 fashion shows.
West compared the Kylie-Puma deal to a scenario where he would decide to star in a show that also aired on Sunday nights, when “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” does. West said it would be as if he came on their show twice and then decided to do his own show with friends Jay Z and Beyoncé.
Later in the episode, Kardashian West confronted her mother, Kris Jenner, who manages all of her kids’ careers and deals. Kardashian West criticized Kris for blindsiding Kanye with Kylie’s deal.
“Sometimes I get ahead of myself, too, and I forget to communicate,” Kris said, apologizing to her daughter.
