Kanye West Sets Record Straight on Meeting at Trump Tower

On Tuesday, Footwear News reported that Kanye West met with President-elect Donald Trump that same day at Trump Tower in Manhattan.
Following the meeting, Trump told assembled reporters that they were “just friends, just friends, he’s a good man,” that “we’ve been friends for a long time,” and that they’d been “discussing life.” However, the internet has gone into overdrive speculating as to the more detailed substance of their encounter.
The obvious conclusion is that West was taking notes for his own purported presidential campaign in 2020 — alluded to earlier this year on British DJ Annie Mac’s radio show. “When I talk about the idea of being president, I’m not saying I have any political views,” he said. “I don’t have views on politics; I just have a view on humanity, on people, on the truth. If there is anything that I can do with my time to somehow make a difference while I’m still alive, I’m all for it.”
Later on Tuesday, West took to Twitter, following a three-month hiatus from the social network, to set the record straight. “I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues,” he tweeted. Issues, he continued, that “included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago.” In summation, he said, “I feel that it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change.”

West previously admitted that he didn’t vote in the U.S. election, but that if he had, it would have been for Trump.

The rapper-cum-fashion-mogul is not the first controversial figure to gain an audience with the president-elect. Trump has also met with Nigel Farage, interim leader of British political party Ukip.
