The Story Behind The Shoe: Dorateymur’s Mule

Dora Teymur isn’t shy about playing with daring silhouettes. For fall ’16, the buzzy designer of Dorateymur fused classical shapes — such as this Telephone mule with its exaggerated Louis XI heel — with retro references pulled from The New Romantics scene.

“I’m influenced by the 1980s right now,” said Teymur of the rebellious studded style. “I think rock ’n’ roll will always be prevalent in my work in a way.”

The 25-year-old designer, a graduate of Cordwainers School at the London College of Fashion, executed the silhouette in three ways: classic black-and-white patent, black-and-red patent and all-over red suede.

Watch on FN

In speaking with FN last month, Teymur said the fall collection was a major stylistic departure for him. “If people thought my previous work was unexpected, with this collection, they will be shocked,” he said. “I’m doing something very new.”

He noted that the designs channel the rebellious spirit of a modern-day Mozart or Marie Antoinette. And while we agree that his fall mule is fit for a queen, we prefer to associate it with the queen of hearts.
