Rihanna hit the red carpet minutes before her Fenty X Puma fall 2016 collection hit the runway — and the star sounded off on everything from her favorite shoes in the collection to her love for Manolo Blahnik. But her biggest revelation was a count of her personal shoe stash. She admitted (albeit reluctantly) to owning more than 1000 pairs!
It was back in late 2014 when news was officially announced that the pop star would serve as creative director for the sports brand. Since then, throughout 2015 her Puma Creepers continued to sell out, and the celebrity endorsements kept on coming. Fast forward to February 2016 and her debut RTW show for the Rihanna Fenty x Puma collection has just made its way down the runway.
FN spent some time with Rihanna ahead of the show, to pick her brain on all things fashion, and of course, shoes. Read on for what she had to say.

Tell us about the platform wedges you have on and what else we can expect in the collection?
“This is the gothic element of the collection. We wanted to do a little Japanese street culture. We didn’t want to make it too uncomfortable, so we made this one with a wedge. These are comfortable. They’re a couple of [styles] with stiletto heels and it depends how much you like heels. But we have boots, sneakers, fur slides and these wedges.”
Favorite pair of shoes in the collection?
“I really love the pointy-tip stiletto boot with the Puma form stipe. Crazy to see Puma stripe on a heel. It trips me out but I enjoy it.”
How many pairs in your closet?
“Oh my gosh, that one is a challenge to figure it out. It keeps piling up every other week. It’s probably in the thousands, and it’s ridiculous and I don’t even want to say it.”
I know you’ve spent time with Manolo Blahnik and he adores you. Thoughts on him?
“I enjoy everything about Manolo. He is such an incredible human being. He’s so fun to work with and I was blessed with the opportunity to see him create from scratch. He’s so passionate about what he does and it makes it so worth it when you buy or wear a pair of his shoes because you know what went into it. He’s not copy and paste. He’s not letting anyone do his work. He has a small team as well. He still loves everything about shoes, and it’s so refreshing.”
Is it harder or easier to be a shoe designer than you thought?
“It’s fun!”
And last, but certainly not least, what did Naomi Campbell have to say when asked what she liked about Rihanna ahead of the show? “Everything. She’s my sister,” said the supermodel.
