The mood: Futuristic forest. A woodlawn set complete with great chrome trees and a cracked mirror ceiling lent an eerie vibe to the show, which was well attended by a slew of boldface names from Naomi Campbell to Chris Rock and Ne-Yo.
The soundtrack: This was no Yeezy-style listening party. Opting to avoid making this about her album ANTi, Rihanna instead played a rather doldrums mix of industrial beats. Good for models to keep their precision paces, bad for audience members looking for something to tap their toes too and sing along.
The shoes: Rihanna has successfully ushered in a new wave at Puma, putting her name behind progressive shapes that, judging by the sellout success of last season’s Fenty creeper, are giving the formerly sluggish brand it’s kick back in the lifestyle space. From pointed heel lace-ups that seemed influenced by boxer boots to towering flatform sneakers, the emphasis was on extreme silhouettes influenced underground culture. Other standouts included wedge combat boots, over-the-waders and a creeper update done in all white patent.
Review: While Rihanna’s admiration for downtown labels such as Alexander Wang was clearly influential, you have to give her credit for overseeing a collection that was pin pointedly her – from the streets wise shoes to the glam goth piercings and spoils of fur. You could see RiRi rocking all of the looks with her signature traffic-stopping sass.
