Marchesa is set to show its fall 2016 collection on Wednesday evening in New York, but Footwear News has an exclusive preview of the footwear before it hits the runway.
The collection, inspired by gardens and florals, features sculptural wedge heels, booties, block heels and dainty flats. This is only the second shoe collection for Marchesa designers Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman—they first debuted shoes for spring ’16.
Backstage at their spring ’16 show, Chapman said that the two had been dreaming about making shoes for a while. Marchesa enlisted AKH Group, which handles the manufacturing and sale of luxury-licensed accessories.
The designers’ signature delicate and intricate craftsmanship is evident in the fall ’16 collection, which makes use of metallic threadwork, sheer mesh, suede and Mother-of-Pearl inlay. Several pairs also feature all-over beading.
“We’ve done this lacquered heel with an inset of Mother-of-Pearl, and it was quite painstaking getting them, but really we’re so thrilled with the results. It came out so beautifully,” said Chapman. “We just enjoy the process so much, it’s been really exciting for us, learning what all the possibilities are.”
