The mood: Where disco meets glam rock.
The shoes: “I wanted to not just make a Ziggy Stardust platform, but my own modern take on this kind of iconic shoe,” said Giuseppe Zanotti at his presentation. With a squared-off toe, tapered sole and slimmed heel, they had a dance-floor groove all their own and did not need the glitter and stone most came dusted in. Elsewhere, though, Zanotti’s skill shined in subtler ways: suede thigh-high boots in quiet pales with belt straps around the ankles and a slouchy shearling version with small hidden wedges were bundle-up beauties, though the designer says that he designs sans temperatures in mind these days. “Season’s are done. I believe it’s about style, desire and uniqueness now,” he said.
Case in point: hand painted floral stiletto boots, which Zanotti boasted had his own brush strokes on them. “I sketch myself and can of course paint,” he said. “It comes easy to me, I’m actually a real designer you see.” Clearly.

The verdict: While his seasonal references can be a little one-note party-party, the corresponding shoes themselves are impressive and more often than not quite remarkable.
