You won’t be seeing brides walk down the aisle in combat boots anytime soon. If Bridal Fashion Week was any indication of consumer wants, elegant white heels are still very much in demand for the spring ’17 season — though a few new ideas were proposed as well.
While the bridal market was rife with modern takes on bridal wear — we saw pantsuited, layered tules, lace turtleneck tops — the footwear offering was surprisingly still very traditional. Designers mostly styled their looks with white ankle-strap sandals, by far the most popular style seen on the runway, as well as peep-toe platforms and pointy embellished pumps.
Quite a few labels particularly used shoes by Christian Louboutin, the emperor of red-soled bridal shoes (his footwear is almost as common at a wedding as preposterous floral arrangements). Jenny Packham showed her collection with Louboutin’s peep-toe pumps with oversized bows, while Naeem Khan went for staggering height with Louboutin’s crisscross satin platforms.
Carolina Herrera showed her collection with Manolo Blahnik’s pointy mesh pumps with floral appliqué work. Meanwhile, Daniel Lawler kept the footwear simple at Oscar de la Renta via round-toe pumps and strappy sandals.

A few runway looks also proposed new bridal shoe ideas. New York-based brand Houghton paired chunky black ankle-strap platforms with white fishnets — a look that could be envisioned on a rocker chick who, begrudgingly, has to follow some sort of tradition for her mother’s sake.
