Director Spike Lee honored Prince on Wednesday night in Los Angeles by wearing none other than the color purple. A special memorial was held in the late musician’s honor. Before the occasion, Lee shared an Instagram of his purple accessories in memory of the music icon, which included Nike Kobe 11s in purple and a purple beret.
Lee opted for the Nike Kobe 11 “Eulogy” sneakers featuring a hyper grape-to-black gradient, with hyper grape taking up the front and midfoot sections and black occupying the heel. The shoes retail for $200.
The L.A. service was reportedly organized by Prince’s ex-wives, Mayte Garcia and Manuela Testolini.
Just two weeks ago, Lee celebrated Prince in Brooklyn, N.Y., along with 5,000 fellow fans. According to the director’s Instagram, another gathering will take place for Prince on June 4 in Brooklyn called the “Purple Party.”

Prince died last month at age 57. The official cause of death has not been released.
The musician was known for his 1984 “Purple Rain” album, combining elements of funk, R&B, rock and jazz. Over his long career, he recorded 39 studio albums. He won seven Grammys, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for his wide-ranging works. His top hits included “Kiss,” “Little Red Corvette,” ”Let’s Go Crazy,” “When Doves Cry” and “Raspberry Beret.”
