Adidas Originals is honoring the history of its Gazelle sneaker with a new campaign featuring Kate Moss.
The brand tapped artist Doug Abraham, also known as @bessnyc4, to rework an iconic image of supermodel Moss wearing a red pair of Gazelles in 1993.
The Gazelle was first introduced in the 1960s but has been beloved by people in every decade since, including Moss.
“Collective memory provides us with the inspiration to create our future,” said Nic Galway, VP of global design at Adidas Originals. “With the relaunch of Gazelle, we looked to the original cultural references that defined the authenticity of the style. Kate Moss has always had a connection to the adidas Originals brand, and her affection for Gazelle during the ’90s is a testament to the ways the silhouette has been adopted into style and pop culture.”
Abraham re-created the photo of Moss by adding in snippets of other photographs as a cultural commentary.
“Gazelle’s were the trainer we all wore in the ’90s,” said Moss. “They have a timeless look that just doesn’t date. I was and always have been an Adidas girl.”
The series featuring Moss, which also includes a video, officially launches on Tuesday. The Gazelle sneakers are already available on Adidas.com in various colorways for both men and women and retail from $80-$90.
