Nike is among the group of companies that have signed the White House Equal Pay Pledge.

On Friday, the White House announced 30 new commitments that also included IBM, Apple, Patagonia, Target, Facebook, General Motors, Hilton, Visa and Delta Airlines, among others.

The pledge — formally known as the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act — was the first piece of legislation that President Barack Obama signed into law. In an effort to continue closing the pay gap between men and women in the U.S., where women earn 79 percent of what men earn, the White House has challenged businesses to also take the pledge.

In its announcement, Nike said, “Diversity is about acknowledging and valuing our differences and appreciating that everyone brings unique experiences, perspectives and ideas to the team. Investing in our employees to unleash their potential translates into a pipeline of new ideas, methods and products that drive the future of sport. We remain committed to equitable pay and rewarding performance across all roles, for all Nike team members.”

Other companies that have already signed the pledge prior to today include Rebecca Minkoff, Stella McCartney, Gap Inc. and Amazon.
