While Salvatore Ferragamo is best known for its tried-and-true loafers, designer Massimiliano Giornetti has his sights on less universally accepted footwear this season. Ergo, sleek mandals — complete with comfort soles.
Luxe fabrications like python and woven leather ensured that these were more fashion- that orthopedic-driven. They would have been more novel last year, though, with men’s open-toe styles now moving in a more streamlined direction.
New chunky hybrid sneakers with burnished- and brogue-leather uppers injected some much-needed newness. With laced tongue details on the top of the uppers, they successfully reintroduced a flash of times gone by.
Speaking of the past, Ferragamo’s loafer legacy would have rounded out this collection nicely, albeit reworked with all the quirk of this collection. Why let Gucci steal all of the horsebit spotlight?
