Burberry Prorsum Men’s Spring 2016: Shoe Highlights

Christopher Bailey turned to unusual fabrics for his spring ’16 Burberry Prorsum show in London, opting for lace shirts paired with patent, wet-look footwear.

Never one to be shy away from color, Bailey used his signature primary hues as toe caps on lace-up dress shoes. The yellows and greens popped even more in a high-shine patent, which appeared to be coated with  PVC plastic.

Similar to the world of luxe automobiles, footwear often flip-flops between matte and shiny finishes. This season, Bailey went in favor of shine, something his footwear managed to do without seeming outlandish.

The designer also continued his pops of color via tassels on suede loafers. Neutral-toned slip-ons were paired with eye-catching tassels in reds, blues, oranges and yellows. For the man afraid of color, the style serves as the perfect way to participate in color-blocking without feeling like Krusty The Clown.

Compared with Burberry’s show last spring, which presented ultra-impactful retro runners in neon colorways, spring ’16  shoes were a fun upgrade for the more refined customer.

The collection served customers well, indeed: The wet-look patents couldn’t have been more on point, given the U.K.’s always-raining reputation.
