New York Giant Odell Beckham Jr. certainly wasn’t in a “joking” mood during Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
After many suggested last week that the young receiver’s Joker-themed cleats were a jab at Panthers player Josh Norman (who goes by the nickname “Batman”), the rivalry between the two players became quite heated on the field at Metlife Stadium, where the Giants fell 38-35.
From the start, the two athletes were seen pushing and shoving, and both received citations for unnecessary roughness. Beckham, in particular, is being criticized for losing his cool and delivering a head-to-head blow to Norman after the play was over.
Some media outlets have speculated that Beckham could face hefty fines from the NFL later this week for unsportsmanlike conduct, which typically draws a minimum fine of $8,681. Others have called for a one-game suspension for the 23-year-old athlete, who they say has difficulty controlling his temper.
Since joining the NFL in 2014, though, Beckham has incurred only three fines from the league. Most recently, he was forced to pay $8,681 as a result of multiple altercations in a game against Buffalo in October.
