Nike’s ‘What The KD7’ Hits Stores Saturday

Nike’s “What The” releases have been sneakerhead favorites since the concept’s introduction in 2007 with the SB What The Dunk. Fans of the KD7 silhouette will soon have a similar release to pick up.

On Saturday, the What The KD7 will hit select Nike retail accounts and the brand’s website.

In true What The fashion — an idea spearheaded by Nike Skateboarding footwear designer James Arizumi — the shoe takes elements from 18 editions of the KD7, from colors and patterns to graphics and technical details, and mashes them together into one very different shoe.

Basketball shoes from the brand started to get the What The treatment with the Kobe VII silhouette in 2012 and picked up steam with the LeBron 10 What The release in 2013 and the LeBron 11 What The release in 2014.

There have been two What The releases for six-time NBA all-star Kevin Durant, with the KD5 and KD6 silhouettes, since his signature shoes hit the scene in 2008.

Some of the more distinguished elements of the shoe are taken from the Aunt Pearl, All-Star, Global Game and Egg Nog colorways.

This release comes on the heels of another KD7 special-edition drop on June 12, the KD7 CNVS EXT. The shoe, complete with an upper split between plaid, polka dots and pinstripes, retailed for $200.
