L.A. Gear, whose shoes made heads turn in the 1980s and ’90s, will once again be in stores. The groundbreaking L.A. Gear Lights sneaker will get a special reintroduction: the company has teamed up with rap star Tyga for the release of an exclusive edition of its iconic shoe.
L.A. Gear joined forces with the multiplatinum recording artist for the Liquid Gold L.A. Lights, a solid metallic gold upper with black highlights and a black outsole with lights in the heel.
Only 500 pairs of the sneaker will be released, to be sold exclusively at California-based Shiekh Shoes’ Hollywood Boulevard location starting March 31. Tyga will be in attendance to meet fans on launch day.
L.A. Gear has also named the multiplatinum recording artist a creative brand adviser in an effort to bring a new perspective to the company’s shoe designs to be launched in May.
In addition to the reintroduction of the Lights, L.A. Gear has re-released updated versions of other beloved styles, such as the KAJ and the Hollywood.
“We are extremely excited to be collaborating with Tyga on some L.A. Gear retro styles, along with the T-Raww by L.A. Gear collection,” said Lance Jackson, VP of L.A. Gear. “Tyga is not only a great musical artist, he also has an amazing fashion sense.”
Teaming up with celebrities isn’t new for the company, which has worked with such sports and pop culture legends as Michael Jackson, Wayne Gretzky, Joe Montana and Paula Abdul.
