Kyrie Irving made his highly anticipated return to the Cleveland Cavaliers last night in a game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Irving was forced to sit out last year’s NBA Finals and the entirety of the current season due to a knee injury.
On Sunday night, Irving returned wearing Nike Kyrie 2 Player’s Edition sneakers. The Cavaliers topped the 76ers 108-86. In honor of Irving’s return, Nike released a video on how Irving prepped to get back on the court after his devastating knee fracture.
In the video, Irving says he’d hit the gym at 6:30 a.m. for over two hours before the Cavaliers practice to get strong again.
Last week, there were rumors that Irving would return, but he shut those down on Twitter, telling followers they would hear when he’d be coming back from him. On Saturday, Irving wrote, “I’m back.”
Nike and Irving released the athlete’s second signature shoe earlier this month. The brand said the shoe was designed to support the point guard’s quick movements. The Kyrie 2 Effect dropped on Dec. 15, and the Inferno colorway will be available on Jan. 1.
