Jeremy Guthrie On Why He’s Retired From Sneaker Collecting

The MLB Pitcher says he has every sneaker he's ever wanted — so he's retiring from collecting any more.

The MLB Pitcher exclusively told Footwear News, he is retiring from collecting kicks. After waiting his “entire life” to get his hands on the Nike Air Mags he told us “they can’t make another shoe that I don’t have.”

“Everything I’ve ever wanted, I have — that’s why I’ve retired from sneaker collecting. I wore the Nike Air Mags during the American League Championships. It was Oct. 21, 2015, and there was no other option for a shoe choice. I saw ‘Back to the Future Part II’ and waited my entire life for that moment. Had I been pitching, I would have put spikes on them and pitched in them. But my fondest sneaker moment was seeing the Nike Air Uptempo, the white-and-navy colorway that Ray Allen wore at UConn,” Guthrie told Footwear News.

“I had been looking for it, but couldn’t find it anywhere. There was a gentleman wearing them at a basketball tournament in my hometown, Roseburg, Ore. He said he got them at the Nike store in Eugene. I called the store — they had one size left, a 14, bigger than my size. The next morning, I woke up at 3 a.m., drove two-and-a-half hours to Eugene to buy them and made it back before my next game.”
