‘Saved By The Bell’ Reunion: An Ode to High-Tops & Scrunch Socks on ‘Tonight Show’

Jimmy Fallon got Bayside High back together.

In what is sure to become one of his more famous skits in recent months (and we don’t say that lightly: Have you seen the lip-synch battle with Will Ferrell?), “The Tonight Show” host inserted himself into the ’90s crew, alongside Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), Kelly Kapowski (Tiffani Thiessen), A.C. Slater (Mario Lopez),  Jessie Spano (Elizabeth Berkley) and Mr. Belding (Dennis Haskins).

True to form, the group reunited in high-tops, canvas Keds and leather ankle boots in an epic mash-up of throwback moments from the show. We don’t want to spoil too much, so check out the clip below:

The clip plays off some fan favorites (Jessie singing “I’m so excited,” Slater prancing in a unitard and Zak’s supersize phone), but it’s the fashion that’s brought on our ’90s nostalgia. Here’s a little game of Remember When:

Hot Sundaes: The girls form a band and record a music video wearing white high tops and scrunch socks, which leads to one of the show’s most famous scenes, when Zak busts Jessie taking caffeine pills.

The Sprain: Lisa and Screech star in a color-coordinated dance party at The Max, which sees Lisa hopping around in a black Keds, while Screech holds onto her crutches, while wearing black Nike kicks with red socks — on point.

Belding’s “cool” brother comes to teach: The gang calls him Rod and instantly bonds with the more laid-back Belding, only to be left disappointed when he bails before a planned class trip.

There are all kinds of shoe moments happening here, from cool Converse and Kelly’s slip-ons to Lisa’s slippers and ankle boots with still more scrunch socks (there appears to be no limit to how high one’s socks could climb).

The prom: These school dance episodes, which feature more casualwear than kids regularly wear in the classroom these days, are somewhat disorienting to the post-Instagram world.

Surprisingly there are a lot of flats on display (the better to spin in?), but it’s Slater’s black-and-white spats that steal the show.
