Last night, notable women from across the globe gathered in New York for the sixth-annual DVF Awards, honoring the work of a few remarkable individuals who are changing the world for the better.

The star-studded event, held at the United Nations, was hosted by Tina Brown and fashion powerhouse and awards founder Diane von Furstenberg, with special presenters Hillary Clinton, Naomi Campbell, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Dakota Fanning.

Also in attendance were former honoree Gloria Steinem, media mogul Barry Diller and TV host Seth Meyers.

But the real attention-getters for the night were the six recipients of the awards.

Accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award was Ambassador Melanne Verveer for her dedication to addressing foreign policy issues related to the political, social and economic advancement of women.

Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords received The Inspiration Award for her strength and courage in the face of adversity.

Finally, Becky Straw and Jody Landers, founders of The Adventure Project, were honored with the People’s Choice Award. The organization was chosen from among four honorees through public voting on Dvfawards.com. Check out FN’s interview with Straw from last month to hear their story.

As part of the award, The Adventure Project will receive a grant of $50,000 to help continue the nonprofit’s mission to create jobs that directly benefit communities in developing nations.
