Women’s Fall 2015 Trend: Modern Satin Shoes

The latest crop of satin shoes for fall ’15 certainly aren’t dainty. Modern design details update the material, giving the old-time classic a decidedly new feel.

While a satin shoe is often the go-to for formal occasions, the fabric has been reworked in a fresher, unexpectedly casual context. This season, designers combined it with patent and embellishments, or used it on atypical silhouettes, like an ankle bootie or slide sandal.

Balenciaga, in fact, did a whole collection of satin shoes. It used the fabric on strappy flat sandals in pale pink, seen at its fall runway show, as well as on a pointed ballet flat finished with beading embellishment.

Satin shoes are still  dressier footwear option, of course. The fabric still reads as more of an evening choice and should be worn as such. But you might want to pack up your staple simple satin shoes — there’s a newer, cooler sister in town.
