Balmain is continuing its lace-up footwear message for spring. Designer Olivier Rousteing sent a number of different wrap-tied sandals down his runway show at Paris Fashion Week, which featured an army of supermodels including Kendall Jenner, Joan Smalls and Lindsey Wixon.
Suede and leather peep-toe booties were laced up the front, secured in with golden eyelets. Cage booties were also done in a sort of netted material, in black and a refreshing teal colorway (Kendall Jenner was spotted wearing the runway shoes a day before the show).
As the show went on, the straps got thicker. Thick fabric strapping had a turban-like effect, and were a style repeated from the label’s resort ’16 presentation.
Though skyscraper stilettos and mad sex-appeal is what Balmain does best, it would be fun to see the brand branch out of its comfort zone. Following a few seasons of virtually the same shoes, customers surely must be itching for something new.
