Giuseppe Zanotti has long been enchanted with an idealized version of California dreaming. For spring ’16 he spun this fantasy further for a collection entitled “Rebel Angels.” Presumably, he’s cast himself as a stiletto-wielding Charlie.
With a palm tree and sunset printed backdrop, glitzy looks prevailed. But if you could see past all the blinding bling and embellishment, a real versatility emerged in this tour-de-force collection, despite the gimmicky theme (aren’t they all, after a while?)
A refined midi stiletto shape is not something you expect to see at Zanotti, but with everything from spectator to mirror-metallic upper and sharp pointed toes, it worked well. Ditto a moderate wedge sandal, with a slim profile and shown in a full color wheel of suedes.

Show pieces included an open-toe booties with large silver rings linking the top and bottom halves and barb-wore cage heels with ladder-strapping, eye-catching as can be.
His son Riccardo, 20, was also on hand, having recently started dipping his toe into design on a pair of collection sandals with a sporting upper that evoked a high-top sneaker. “I’m starting slowly and just trying to see what I can learn,” he said. If spring ’16 was anything to go by, father Zanotti has a lot share.
