Following a month-long run of designer presentations in Europe, the spring ’16 market is now in full bloom — and the shoes just so happen to be fit for a whimsical garden party, too.
High-end designers embraced garden motifs on their shoes this season. Of course, the essential floral print made an appearance — florals for spring, groundbreaking? — but they were reinterpreted in new, unexpected shoe shapes, like Mary Katrantzou’s buckled pointy boot or Sarah Flint’s espadrille.
Floral motifs were also done as appliqués, as seen in Tabitha Simmons’ sandal style, which featured a jute material as the backdrop, while Hermès offered suede fern leaves applied to a platform sandal.

But flowers weren’t the only design inspiration this season. Other brands used less obvious garden motifs, such as snakes or butterflies. Aperlaï offered a metallic embossed-snakeskin leather with had a snake coiled around a the pointy flat. And René Caovilla embellished Swarovski butterflies onto its strappy stiletto.
Bionda Castana’s block-heeled sandals featured a picnic-ready gingham print.
