More is apparently more for spring ’16. Designers experimented with playful embellishments — ranging from the kitschy to the elegant — on their footwear collections.
While it’s nothing new in footwear, embellishment served as the focal point, with silhouettes and colorways revolving around it. Marc Jacobs, for example, gave simple pumps extra pizzazz via stars, ladybugs, safety pins and more.
Rochas added a crystal eye design on its ladylike satin sandal, which provided just the right amount of visual interest without going over-the-top.
Both Fendi and O Jour by Giorgia Caovilla used floral treatments on their designs. While Fendi’s oversized flowers gave its footwear collection a mod spin, Caovilla’s shrunken flowers were a more modern take on the classic embellishment.
To wear the trend, let the shoes do all the talking by pairing them with a simple black dress. An added bonus: these styles are particularly good for breaking the ice at parties.
