Betsey Johnson: 5 Things You Didn’t Know About The Designer

Betsey Johnson may be known for her energy and signature splits on the runway, but her shoe closet is pretty impressive, too.

The designer was honored earlier this year with the Geoffrey Beane Lifetime Achievement Award at the CFDAs.

Here, Footwear News takes a look inside her shoe closet and brings you some fun facts.

1. Johnson has a few favorite shoes brands outside of her own.
“My favorite shoes are Azzedine Alaia, Giuseppe Zanotti, Vivienne Westwood — and my bling-bling styles from my own line!”

4. If the designer were a shoe, she would be a slipper.

“I would be a big, comfy, cozy sherpa-lined leopard faux-fur slipper. That has been my vibe lately.”

5. Before founding her namesake line, Johnson ran Alley Cat.

The designer took over the label, which was was popular with musicians, in the early 1970s.
