Lady Gaga is the lucky new owner of all three pairs of Alexander McQueen Armadillo boots that were up for auction at Christie’s New York. On Friday, FN reported that the shoes had been sold for a combined $295,000 but it was not clear who had purchased them.
Over the weekend, Lady Gaga revealed that her fiancé, actor Taylor Kinney, had purchased the shoes for her. She posted photos on Instagram of her trying them on.
“When a gift comes to you from Heaven photo by Taylor Kinney best fiancé ever,” she wrote.
Gaga also posed wearing one pair and holding the other two. “Long Live McQueen,” she wrote. “Look monsters, we got a sign of love from the beyond.”
On Sunday, Gaga was spotted wearing the emerald green pair as she exited her New York City hotel and sported them for her performance on Sunday night with U2 at Madison Square Garden.
The singer and the designer were close friends. In 2012, Lady Gaga purchased a McQueen gown for $133,075 that was up for auction at Christie’s in London to benefit the Isabella Blow Foundation, created in honor of the late fashion editor.
Profits from the sale of the McQueen Armadillo shoes are being donated to UNICEF’s relief efforts in earthquake-ravaged Nepal. Christie’s had started the bidding for each pair at $10,000. All three pairs were handcrafted in Italy from wood and python skin.
