Gianvito Rossi is in a New York state of mind. The Italian luxury designer is in town this week to open his first Big Apple store, on the corner of Madison Avenue and 75th Street.
The boutique is the designer’s first in the U.S. market and his fifth globally. Rossi, who has been quickly expanding his label, also counts locations in Milan, Paris, Hong Kong and London. “I have been coming to New York since I was a kid. It is a very special city for me,” Rossi said. “It is always the right time to have a store in Manhattan.”
When asked about his choice of location, the designer said, “It is more about the people living in the city than visiting it.”
The elegant, 1,000-sq.-ft. space was designed in partnership with Milan-based architect Patricia Urquiola. It’s wrapped in shades of pink, giving the store an ultra-feminine touch. Oak floors also are used throughout, and tinted glass and smoky-colored mirrors run along the side of the boutique.
Urquiola designed unique furniture and accessories for the space, including armchairs in plush velvet and supple leather. The window display features at Dieter Rams-designed bookcase lacquered in powder pink with opaque panels.
Rossi also designed a special America Plexi pump that will be exclusive to the New York store to celebrate the opening.
