Jordan Spieth had a big day yesterday. His sponsor, Under Armour, scored an even bigger one.
The 21-year-old golf sensation won the Masters on Sunday in dominating fashion with a score of 18-under par 270. The humble Texan, who earned $1.8 million for his victory, called his first major “the greatest day” of his life.
While his steady hand and dominating performance were apparent through the tournament, so was Under Armour’s inter-locking logo — in white letters set against Spieth’s navy shirt, cap, belt and golf shoes.
The Baltimore-based company took to social media throughout the championship but was active yesterday, counting down his strokes to victory. “9 holes from history,” read one tweet. But when Spieth won it all, the company tweeted: “The History. The Jacket. The Kid.”

Under Armour signed Spieth, who turned professional in December 2012, in 2013 to what is said to be a 10-year deal.

That endorsement continues the company’s hot streak of signing, rising talented stars across sports. Earlier this year Under Armour launched a basketball shoe with Steph Curry that was its first serious foray into the category.
The moves — and their good results so far —have Wall Street buzzing. Sterne Agee analyst Sam Poser wrote in a report this morning that “Jordan Spieth’s Masters victory will propel the brand to a whole new level.”
He said: “We are confident that Jordan Spieth’s victory at the Masters will help elevate the Under Armour brand on a global level. The victory at the Masters, while setting or matching numerous Masters records, propelled Jordan Spieth to the No. 2 ranked golfer in the world at the age of 21. … We believe that Spieth has just become the next American face of golf, a position which will serve Under Armour quite well for some time to come.”
