Nike Signs Rory McIlroy

Nike Golf has a new front man.

The Beaverton, Ore.-based brand announced it signed world No. 1 golfer Rory McIlroy to a multiyear endorsement contract.

As part of the agreement, the 2012 U.S. PGA Tour Player of the Year will represent the label’s footwear, apparel and golf clubs on the course. Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed.

“He is the epitome of a Nike athlete, and he is joining our team during the most exciting time in Nike Golf’s history,” Cindy Davis, president of Nike Golf, said in written statement. “We are looking forward to partnering with him to take his remarkable career to the next level.”

McIlroy will debut his Nike gear during this week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. An advertisement featuring McIlroy and fellow Nike endorser Tiger Woods also launched online this week and will air nationally on ESPN and The Golf Channel from Jan. 16-21.
