Vans sneakers have been a staple in the lifestyle market since 1966, and this year, they’re continuing that trend with a brand new silhouette. Titled the Varix, the new shoe is also the first casual sneaker to feature Wafflecup technology.
Since the brand’s inception in 1966, Vans has presented the footwear world with all kinds of new technologies. While not all forward-thinking designs catch on with consumers, the latest trend is an advancement in skate shoes like no other, so comfortable that Vans built a whole new lifestyle model around it. Of course, we’re talking about Wafflecup tech. Aptly named after the brand’s signature waffle soles, the new midsole technology is a breakthrough in the extreme sports world. Previously, skate-style shoes utilized either vulcanized soles or cupsoles, each with their own unique feel and benefits. Now, Vans has found a way to combine the two, creating a hybrid sole that offers comfort, support, and durability as well as the grip and feel of a skate shoe.
Wafflecup soles can be worn casually, however. To help introduce this idea to more of their fanbase, the California-based brand has designed an intriguing new silhouette, the Varix WC. The new sneaker resembles the oversized skate shoes of the early and mid-2000s. with a modern twist to make them a perfect pair for 2018. The Vans Varix begins with breathable mesh base for flexibility and enhanced comfort. Next, the upper is heavily layered with premium leathers and other textiles that give it the “dad” look that many sneakerheads are after this year.
The all-new Vans Varix WC is currently available directly from Vans, with a widespread availability coming in soon. The brand’s latest lifestyle model will retail for just $100 per pair and launches in a trio of OG colorways.
