adidas is growing their upcoming collection of Star Wars-themed sneakers for this year’s Star Wars Day celebration. This week, the NMD_R1 joins the project, cast in an all-black “Darth Vader” look.
Star Wars and adidas kicked off their long-standing collaboration in 2010, when the two introduced their debut collection with iconic packaging inspired by action figures. Since then, the two have produced numerous projects inspired by characters and themes from the legendary IP, which continues this year with a special Star Wars Day, which includes artwork from Japanese studio Nanzuka. So far, this year’s collection includes the Stan Smith and Superstar XLG, and now, a Darth Vader-inspired NMD_R1. The iconic silhouette from 2015 is back, and the new Star Wars edition paints the model entirely in a jet black color scheme. The knit upper adds glossy, tendril-like graphics to the shoe’s toe box, with matching graphics for the rubber heel counter. The heel of the midsole also adds a “Most Impressive” quote from Vader himself, spoken in The Empire Strikes Back.

The latest collection from adidas and Star Wars is set to release later this week, on May 4th, 2024, unofficially known as Star Wars Day. The project, which includes this jet black pair of the “Darth Vader” NMD_R1 will be available from the brand’s website and select retailers, though a retail price is currently unknown.
