Sacai first announced their collaboration with Nike via prototype sneakers on the runway. Since then, the shoes have largely been kept under wraps, until this week. Check out the Sacai x Nike LDV Waffle, expected to launch next month.
Sacai and Nike have formed a somewhat unexpected, yet extremely compatible relationship with each other. The fashion label, founded in Japan by Chitose Abe in 1999, has become quite an anomaly in the fashion world. Abe started the brand out of her home when she was pregnant, after feeling that her wardrobe was limited to a select few standard types of clothing. Mixing her experience as a pattern maker at CDG, she began creating comfortable and stylish clothing that could be worn on the runway, to the local PTA meeting, and to drop off the kids at school. Sacai’s ability to seamlessly transition between fashionable and functional has proven them to be one of the most versatile brands in fashion. Now, they’ll be bringing that versatility to the Swoosh through their new project. Similar to several of their own hybrid pieces, Abe and her team have elected to mix two classic Nike silhouettes into something new. Combining the LDV and the Waffle Daybreak, the new silhouette is a stunning combination of sleek and eye-catching. Beginning with a see-through mesh upper, the shoe takes overlays from both contributing models, and uses them both, giving the shoe an interesting layered look.
SACAI X NIKE LDV WAFFLE RELEASE INFORMATION
The Sacai x Nike LDV Waffle hybrid is expected to release sometime in January 2019, though no specific date has been set yet. The mashup of classic Nike sneakers will likely carry a somewhat hefty price tag, though this remains to be seen.
