Nike’s Blazer ’77 Mid is the Latest Classic Silhouette to Receive a Scrap Material Makeover

The Nike Blazer has been everywhere in the past few years, thanks to an extended retro revival for the brand. This week, the ’77 version makes some material changes, incorporating waste scraps for a new recycled version, coming soon.

Nike’s new Move to Zero initiative has brought some interesting new upgrades and material changes to some of its most popular sneakers in 2020. The project kicked off this Summer with the Space Hippie program, a series of four brand new silhouettes made entirely from scrap materials recycled to be reused. Now, the brand is extending this use of recycled waste and scrap to their in-line silhouettes, like the new knit Blazer coming this year. This recycled material version of the classic Blazer Mid ’77 features a new knit upper, made from recycled textiles and tarns to create a brand new panel, while leather accents line the toe box, lacing system, and mudguards. The leather Swoosh is outlined with contrasting red zig-zag stitching, while various neon green accents complete the look.
