The Air Max Sunder is poised for a big year in 2024. The model originally released in 1999, but has largely been kept in the Nike vault for the last twenty-five years. Last year, the Swoosh teased the model’s return, showcasing a number of colors, which will begin their rollout later this month. Now, a tonal black pair has been scheduled for a September release.
The Air Max Sunder from 1999 is back this year, reviving yet another wild Air Max silhouette from the Nike archives. The model has bene gaining popularity online over the last few years, kickstarted by CdG’s out-of-left collaboration featuring the model back in Summer 2022. Then, Nike finally confirmed an official retro release last Fall, showing off a handful of classic bright colorways during their inaugural SNKRS Showcase. With the debut of the “Canyon Gold” color scheme coming next week, we now have the first in-hand look at the simple black color scheme, coming later this Fall.
The upcoming “Black” edition of the Air Max Sunder, is a departure from the colorful array of styles Nike has already announced for this Summer. Arriving closer to the colder, rainy months, this pair features the brand’s signature Anthracite shade of black for the silhouette’s neoprene outer shroud. The mudguards come in black, with the rubberized portions added in anthracite with some metallic silver hits. All of this is mounted on a black midsole to complete the look.
