Sustainability is the name of the game in the sneaker world, with Nike leading the way by introducing recycled materials into nearly every product they make. This week, the Air Huarache emerged as part of the Next Nature program, coming soon.
Nike’s Move to Zero campaign has brought about a wave of new sustainability initiatives. Emerging recently, the Next Nature program is taking the lead by crafting shoes from at least 20% recycled content by weight. The project spans everything from high performance running shoes to the new Air Huarache Next Nature, which surfaced in two colorways this week. Immediately, the first thing we noticed about this new style of the Huarache is the construction of the upper, which swaps out the typical mesh seen on the toe box and quarter panels in favor of a new woven textile. The layered weave is similar to past Nike products, namely the Air Woven, and is likely made up of recycled materials from the Swoosh’s factory floors. The Air Huarache Next Nature will debut in at least two colorways, one plain white with a contrasting black heel counter, and the other featuring a rainbow-colored woven element along with navy blue overlays and a bold green midsole.
