Sneaker brands are flocking to Paris to release special edition footwear and apparel in celebration of this year’s Summer Olympic Games. This week, New Balance officially unveiled their Made in USA capsule collection for the occasion, featuring the 997 in a beautiful neutral color scheme.
Olympic-themed sneakers are about to flood the release calendar for the next few weeks, ahead of the Games’ kickoff later this month. We’ve already previewed a number of releases from Nike, adidas, and more, all of which are going the route of national and medal-themed colorways. However, New Balance appears to be cooking up a special release honoring this year’s host city of Paris, France. The first pair from the project, a 990v6, surfaced earlier this week, and now, the Boston brand has officially announced the city-exclusive release, including a pair of the 997.
Dropping exclusively from New Balance’s Le Marais store in Paris, this Made in USA project highlights the city’s culture and architecture through special colorways. The 997 from the pack is much lighter than its 990v6 counterpart, featuring a mesh, leather, and suede upper that is cast almost entirely in an off-white hue. Lush green suedes decorate the collars and ‘N’ logos, while dark brown joins as a secondary accent. Gold plastic portions add some extra flare, while a red lining completes the look.
