New Balance practically pioneered the retro sneaker market back in 1995, with the release of the 1300JP. The iconic silhouette now releases once every five years, with the next drop coming soon in May 2025.
The New Balance 1300JP was originally released in 1985, and encapsulated everything excellent about the ’80s running scene in one sneaker. The sleek silhouette features a simple build, mixing mesh and nubuck leather overlays, prioritizing comfort and durability above all. Since its first retro in ’95, the shoe has been on a steady track of only becoming available once every five years, and is always kept in limited quantities. Now, its 2025, and the next appearance of the cult classic is around the corner.
This year’s release of the 1300JP brings the shoe’s production to New Balance’s Made in USA program, manufactured right here in America. In 2020, the shoe was made by hand in Japan, and came with a steep price tag to reflect the cost of making such a premium sneaker in limited quantities. Once again, the shoe takes on a smooth, fan-favorite color scheme, mixing cool grey mesh with a tan nubuck leather, and adding just a splash of blue to the N logos to complete the look.
