Asics has drafted another unique fashion label into their stable of collaborators, this time being Japan’s Doublet. For their first team-up together, the streetwear label is delivering their take on the GEL-Kayano 20, coming soon.
Doublet began back in 2012, founded by its lead designer Masayuki Ino in collaboration with Takashi Murakami. The brand has put an emphasis on creating gender neutral apparel, also using exaggerated styling like unconventional cuts and and creative uses of materials to their advantage. Their love of pop culture is no secret either, currently their website is designed to mimic the look and UX of browsing Netflix.
The debut project from Doublet and Asics takes the GEL-Kayano 20 as its canvas, and gives it a look inspired by cardboard boxes. The shoe comes almost entirely in a sand brown shade, with some colorful hits of blue, red, and white sprinkled throughout. The model is constructed from Tyvek, a durable textile used in construction, medical packaging, and more, and will wear and change textures and colors as they age.

The official release date for the upcoming Doublet x Asics GEL-Kayano 20 collaboration has not been revealed yet, but is expected to release on November 16th, 2024. The sandy-toned pair of the retro runner will likely be available in limited numbers, releasing from both partners.
