Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has unveiled his first signature shoe with Converse. The NBA star joined Cons as its creative director for Basketball last year, and has approached the new SHAI 001 through a fashion lens, coming this Fall.
Converse is entering a new era for their performance basketball shoes this year. As the original creator of the dedicated court shoe with the All-Star high-top, Cons has been an essential part of basketball history for well over one hundred years. Now armed with the full innovation and tech from Nike, they have tapped Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to be the creative director of the Bball line, including his own signature sneaker.
SGA’s new Converse SHAI 001 made its debut this weekend, during the NBA’s All-Star Game. The two hosted an event to show off the new model before its on-court debut on Sunday night, where Shai talked about his goal of leaning into both performance and fashion elements. The 001 will debut in the “Butter” colorway seen here, and features a minimal upper with molded overlays along the lacing system and heels. Zippered shrouds cover the laces of the shoe, while a warped grid outsole provides plenty of traction.

The first signature shoe from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Converse is set to release this Fall, though no specific date has been announced yet. The Shai 001 silhouette will make its debut in this “Butter” colorway, with more styles like to follow quickly afterwards. No pricing information for the new model is available yet.
