The adidas Originals team caught lightning in a bottle with the original NMD in 2015. Now, seven years and a number of offshoot models later, the Nomad has emerged in its latest form the NMD_V3, coming soon.
adidas’ NMD family has been in somewhat of a slump in the past several years, after a blisteringly high peak in popularity around 2016 and 2017. Now, the NMD is one of the most widely available SKUs, with the Three Stripes creating over one thousand, seven hundred unique colorways of sneakers within the Nomad family tree. Now, several years removed from the over-saturation of the NMD market, adidas is ready to take a step back and refresh, this time tying a new style more closely back to the original NMD_R1, in the form of the NMD_V3, the latest addition to the franchise.
The adidas Originals NMD_V3 celebrates the original design of the NMD while adding new materials and technologies to bring the shoe into the modern day. Seen here in an all-over grey colorway, the upcoming NMD_V3 appears to be constructed entirely from some sort of ripstop material, clearly showing off a grid pattern to the upper though it is unclear whether the textile is natural or synthetic. The upper also adds taped overlays for a more resistant makeup, as well as rebuilding the lacing system for a more form-fitting silhouette. Finally, the NMD’s outsole has been expanded, curving up to provide both stability and protection for the Boost midsole.
