Air Jordan 1 Golf
The Air Jordan 1 Golf is a golf version of Michael Jordan’s first signature basketball shoe. Jordan Brand began its foray into the golf genre in 2017 by way of a high-top Jordan 1 Golf with “Chicago” color blocking. That shoe, which featured an exaggerated sole with traction spokes, was followed by a handful of other colorways throughout the course of 2017 before Jordan Brand shelved the model.
About four years later in 2022, Jordan Brand introduced a more conservative golf-ready take on the hardwood classic. This time, the Jordan 1 Golf consisted of a low-top AJ1 with an altered, deeper traction pattern on the outsole, making them harder to distinguish from your standard non-golf pair. That quality, complemented by the release of original AJ1 “Shadow” and “Chicago” colorways early on, helped the model win more favor among both golfers and collectors.
The Jordan 1 Golf series now includes a low-top and high-top version, and while perhaps a bit more rare; a heel-less mule. Original AJ1 colorways from 1985 continue to be the series’ foremost offerings, but we’ve also seen pairs wear fresh looks in honor of particular golf events among other non-original colorways. There’s even a Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Golf collaboration, which released in 2023.
Michael Jordan’s well-documented love for golf is enough reason as to why Jordan Brand re-tooled his signature shoe for the greens, but the AJ1 Golf is also reflective of a changing culture surrounding the sport. While still steeped in tradition, big demographic shifts mean there are more new golfers now than ever before, most of whom are on the younger side and want unique golf footwear as opposed to your traditional spiked loafer.
