“Catching ’em all” may be the catchier tagline, but the animating factor at the heart of the Pokemon anime, TCG, and video games has always been battling. So though the initial Pokemon Crocs collaboration in 2024 was welcome news for fans of the franchise, their next step feels like we’re getting closer to the heart of what the partnership truly can be.
Tabbed as the “Versus Clog,” the first pair to hit the newswire is a “Charizard and Blastoise” mismatch colorway, pinning two of the first three starter choices against one another on their own stealthy shoes. While jet black takes up most of the real estate, the medial side of either shoe swaps into each Pocket Monster’s given element, with wavy and fiery geometry taking over the midsole and the hinge of the Sports Mode strap. Further harkening back to the introduction Red and Blue mascots, Jibbitz displaying classic Ken Sugimori-style illustrations appear on either shoe, paired with an extra appearance of their elemental types.
Zooming out from this “Charizard vs. Blastoise” Pokemon Versus Clog, listings of an additional Pokemon Crocs collection have already started cropping up at retailers for this summer, potentially a sign that more pairs executing this mash-up theme are on the way. We’ll wait for further confirmation on that end — for now, this pair is available now at stockists like BSTN, carrying a €70 retail price in adult sizing. Drops at additional stores and Crocs.com are expected soon.
