Swarovski is footwear brand’s go-to partner to bring a luxe, elevated touch to their most beloved models. While the Three Stripes, Vans, Crocs, and others have dipped their toe into the waters, some of the most visible link-ups have come under the Nike, Inc. banner, seen with the Swarovski Air Max Plus and the upcoming Swarovski Jordan 1 Low. The initiative is only spreading through Beaverton’s halls, with Converse circling back to join up with the Australian jeweler once again.
We’re of course harkening to the kick-off of this relationship on the Converse De Luxe Squared. This marks a shift back to more conventional sneaker styles out of Boston, syncretizing the classic, effortless style of the Chuck 70 with the unabashedly gaudy veneer granted by Swarovski crystals. Neither partner reinvents the wheel with this shoe: the jewels paint the eye-stays and quarter panels of both the all-white Chuck 70 high and the black Chuck 70 low.
The former shoe presents perhaps the most creative application, with a semicircle grafted on to the rubber toe. Notably, while these could be pulled out for casual wear, the express purpose of either colorway is for weddings, with Converse specifically pointing out the baby blue dust bag as an inclusion that speaks to “something blue.”
The Swarovski Converse Chuck 70 collection releases on May 2nd via SNKRS and Converse.com — the High retails at $450 while the Low carries a $350 price tag.
