Even if Michael Jordan didn’t return from Birmingham covered in glory the same way he did on the hardwood, Jordan Brand hasn’t shied away from embracing MJ’s foray into baseball on his signature line. Easily the two most memorable of that cadre are the Air Jordan 9 “Barons” and Air Jordan 1 “Barons,” the latter now inspiring a mid cut version hitting the shelves in the prime of the MLB season.

Spending a laidback day at the ballpark is back on the menu, so it’s only right that one of the Jumpman’s more easily accessible and easily worn silhouettes takes to the diamond-inspired do-up. Indeed, while we’ve seen pairs of the Air Jordan 1 Mid and other GR products gesture towards coveted Retro colorways, this is an incredible faithful adaptation of what the 2014 release carried; “Black Toe” color-blocking gets a greyscale overhaul, pinning steely grey on the collar and sole. Materiality is about the only place where this shoe breaks from its High counterpart, swapping to leather on the rear overlays rather than the nubuck that defined the “OG.”
