Nike Air Max 1 “King’s Day” Is Finally Launching

Inspired by the Koningsdag national holiday.

Nike Air Max 1 “King’s Day” Is Finally Launching

As a truly global company, Nike has never shied away from embracing local cultures with some of its most cherished franchises, especially when it comes to Air Max. Be it the JD Sports run of the Air Max 95 or the Australia-exclusive colorways of the Air Max Plus, the vertical has had a penchant for sealing off particular looks to specific subsets. With the Air Max 1 “King’s Day,” it’s the Netherlands in focus, with retailers beginning to post details on how to grab your pair.

Seeing as the shoe doesn’t carry any particularly obvious branding, much initial coverage of this shoe as official images trickled out missed the Dutch connection. However, the celebration of the King’s birthday bears an obvious tie, imbuing the national adoption of orange on the holiday across diamond-knit mesh panels. Refined notes of brown mix up the leather swatches in between, culminating with a grooved heel panel at the very rear of the shoe.

Perhaps the standout aesthetic feature, the timeless AM1 mudguard splits in half between those two primary tones, interrupting the woody half with an orange mini Swoosh at the toe. Though not depicted in these images, note that the interior of the tongue disguises a stash pocket for any extras you might be bringing to the party.

The shoes currently have a confirmed release date in Europe days before the Koningsdag holiday, but it’s unclear whether it’ll spread beyond the continent. Keep our Sneaker Release Dates page within reach for more info as it comes, or simply enjoy the in-hand looks embedded below and look forward to the April 22nd release.
