With early looks and leaks rampant through the industry, it’s rare to see a shoe’s profile jump after release, but that’s precisely what happened with the Wizard of Oz x Nike SB Dunk Low. Met with muted reaction upon hitting the shelves, an alternate, sequin-laden Nike SB Dunk Low “Red Slipper” colorway hit the internet shortly after pairs started landing at SB accounts, with those extremely limited alternates now commanding upwards of $10,000 on the grey market. Perhaps even those numbers undersell how rare the shoe is, as an unexpected dissection by StockX reveals that only 85 distinct pairs are in rotation.
You might wonder what even led StockX to pull out medical equipment for any shoe, but it’s increasing become a part of authenticating merchandise outside of sneakers, including sports memorabilia, notably also hosted on the resale platform. Utilized to reveal what’s inside of closed packages, the “blind box” aspect of this “Golden Ticket” release makes it a prime candidate for the technology to be applied, likely revealing this hidden detail as a byproduct. Nonetheless, while the colorway remains true to what we’ve caught before (baby blue lining alluding to Dorothy’s dress, insole pattern showing the crushed Witch, and the shining “Red Slipper” sequins), this adds some further intrigue to a shoe that was already one of 2024’s hottest commodities.
The Nike SB Dunk Low “Red Slipper” remains in circulation, but as StockX lays out, getting your hands on a pair just got much more difficult (or expensive.) Catch the CT scan imagery included below, along with detailed in-hand looks at the shoe.
