As Y2K trends have crested, oftentimes brands haven’t needed to dream up new silhouettes to meet demand. Retro efforts for the ASICS GEL-Kayano 14 has propelled it to status as a defining face of the movement, and no hardware changes were required in the slightest. However, while throwback offerings have sufficed so far, ASICS got ahead of the curve with the dawn of the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 10.1, now taking on an aquatic “Rainy Lake” palette.
For the uninitiated, the GEL-Nimbus 10.1 takes the archival GEL-Nimbus 10 and refreshes its composition by utilizing the GLK14 sole. Despite that modernization effort, The deliciously maximalist aspects of the Nimbus are still intact, including the globe-like striations that run across the quarter panel. Like most shoes of its ilk, there’s a palpable sense of density with the varying textures employed in this shoe, particularly noticeable in an off-kilter colorway like the one featured here. The blend of typical techy white and silver is contrasted well by doses of beige in the Tiger Stripes branding and titular “Rainy Lake” pouring through the trim.
The ASICS GEL-Nimbus 10.1 “Rainy Lake” is available now at ASICS’ online shop; catch official images included below and keep our Sneaker Release Dates page in mind in the coming weeks.
