“Galaxy Foams” is almost shorthand for its era of sneaker culture, the legendary shoe almost eclipsed by the chaos that ensued in a wide range of FCFS drops around the country in 2012. Easily surpassing the $1,000 mark (largely unheard of in that early 2010s period), people were prompted to make some outlandish offers to get their hands on the shoe, and as we stare down the colorway’s first-ever retro, The Better Generation has eyes on restoring that feeling.
For the uninitiated, PJ Tucker’s store is referencing a now-iconic Craigslist post from a Queens resident quite literally offering 1996 Chevy Cavalier in order to secure a size 10.5. In their initial post, The Better Generation’s interstellar mod of a 1996 Chevy Corvette simply read as a clever activation (BSTN’s “Legend Blue” or Solebox’s “Black Cement”), but fans can actually get their hands on it.
For those who will be in the Bay during All-Star weekend, all you need to do is register for the store’s better+ release program (bettervault.xyz) for a chance to drive off in the candy paint edition. Of course, it’s also a tie into their release for the Foamposites themselves; five members of the program will get exclusive access to lock in their size, with one random apparel order also selected for the same.
Will The Better Generation’s activation and what’s sure to be a host of similar efforts truly bring back the energy? Only time will tell — get your entries in via the link above, or set your calendar for the shoe’s earnest release on February 21st.
